Dangwa Market Revisited

The Dangwa Flower Market before it was completely vandalized by Mayor Lim. The market is populated with a lot of idle people that shows what kind of commerce is going on. During the last term of Mayor Atienza of Manila, he improved and beautified The Dangwa Flower Market. He installed decorative lamp posts, paved the street with cement bricks and placed large planters in the middle of the alley. He called the project Bulaklakan sa Maynila. It was a big improvement from the old setup and vendors and buyers appreciated it, nevermind if it was overly done. However, when Mayor Alfredo Lim took over, he demolished all the improvements and carted away all the decorative items that Atienza installed. Alfredo Lim even went to the extent of taking away the paving leaving the street a muddy place to walk on during the raining season. I cannot understand why Mayor Lim has to destroy what is already a finished project paid for by the taxpayers. There are many things not working in the city and he could have put his energy and public resources into things that need improvement. Apparently, the destruction of the Bulaklakan sa Maynila was done out of some personal pique and spite. The taxpayers who paid for the project are the ultimate losers. This is the kind of pathetic and unconscionable politics so common in the Philippines that has retarded the country. It is a clear example of one step forward and three steps backward.
