A casual arrangement of Gloriosa Lilies mixed with green grass plants.
After my dental treatment in Quezon City, I dropped by the flower market in Manila popularly known as the Dangwa Flower Market. It is called Dangwa because it is here that the Dangwa Bus Co. has a terminal and this bus company is also the principal transporter of floral produce from the mountain provinces.

There are basically three sections to this market bounded by Dimasalang, Laong Laan and Maria Clara Streets. The Dimasalang section is where the established flower traders are positioned and they have the choice flowers for sale, for a higher price. The second section is where the newer flower vendors have put up shops while the third section is where itenerant vendors congregate and sell their produce. It is also here that one can find the leaves section of the market.
I always go to the third section because parking is readily available and the flowers and leaves there are also much cheaper. By and large the flower market in Manila is very monotonous as the selection of flowers are very limited. They carry the same variety almost all year round. Occassionally however, some less ordinary flowers appear. And when they do, they get invariably sold out quickly.
An antique black ceramic Liu Hai, the moon frog fairy, is enlivened by the simple yet lush Gloriosa Lilies arrangement in a conical glass vase.
Today, I stumbled upon the flower which I have always liked because they are not common, at least in the Philippines. The Gloriosa Lily, as I understand from one flower vendor in Baguio whom I interviewed when I was there last year, is a new import and its cultivation in Baguio is still very limited hence the limited supply. As an uncommon flower, it commands a high price but what made me happy today is I was able to buy 4 stalks for only Pesos 100. I bargain a little as a matter of course but the vendor was just happy to give it to me for my price. Nearby, I bought 3 bunches of grass plants for P25 as fillers.
For P125. I have this large fresh arrangement in my room which will last for at least 5 days to a week. The greens can stay for three weeks easily. Chic living does not entail much if one is resourceful and knows how to mix the uncommon with the ordinary.
